.mkv file playing weirdly? |
|
|
Hello Everyone!
I looked to see if the forum already had this question, but I did not see it anywhere. If it has been already asked- I apologize!
Anyways, whenever I watch anime/etc on a .mkv file it tends to stall, subtitles can be weird, and sometimes the scenes become very pixel-esque. I have the latest version of VLC, what I believe to be the the latest version of Media Player Classic, and of course Windows Media Player- and on all three, problems keep popping up!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
THANK YOU! |

Is it all .mkv files or just a specific one? Cause if it's just 1, then that file might be corrupt _________________

I don't know anything about VLC (I've tried to install it before but it didn't work for my computer), but I use CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) which has Media Player Classic and it works really well for me.
I used to have problem watching .mkv (and sometime .mp4) so I know how annoying that can be. The reason for me was because the .mkv files were in HD (720p), and my computer was too old to be able to play those files properly even with the right player.
I've got myself a new laptop, so whenever I want to watch HQ .mkv I have to use it instead of the older computer (even though I use the same player for both.) If the .mkv is a SD file (480p) my old computer can play it anyway. _________________

It's all the .mkv files, that I have- but .avi seems to play fine-ish.
I wonder if the age of my laptop is the reason- I did get it back in... 2006? Is there any way to make it "better" despite the age, or is it a new computer thing only?
Thank You!
PS: I'm a complete computer idiot- what is the difference between 720p and 480p? |

720p is a high quality/HQ or high definition/HD video. 480p is normal quality.
I think my laptop is just as old as yours but I can play both HQ and LQ just fine so I doubt it get anything to do with the age >>; To play an .mkv file, you need to have a Codec like the one Eien used, CCCP, but most of the times you don't really need a Codec when you are using VLC. If you are using Windows Media Player, then yes you have to install a Codec. You can try K-Lite Codec Pack for example.
If it is not working, then maybe you should update your laptop's version or the RAM. _________________

My computer knowledge is really bad too. I don’t know if there is anything you can do about the "old computer thing".
You can read about 720p and 480p on wikipedia. To explain it simply, the higher definition the better/sharper is the picture.
Here on AWR the technical details usually say if the file is .AVI, .MP4, or .MKV and if it's LQ (low quality), GQ (good quality) or HQ (high quality). HQ doesn't mean it has to be in HD here, since we have ranked the files before HD started to get common. (I'm not sure - but if you see somewhere here in AWR it says "very HQ”, it might be a HD file.)
I look at the file size when I download since it usually gives away what quality the files have. For example, if the .mkv file is about 130+ mb it's probably SD (standard definition) and if it's between 240-300+ mb it's most likely HD (high definition). _________________
