PostPosted: Sat Apr 24, 2010 3:41 pm    Post subject: Creating a thread for updates/new uploads Reply with quote

I always post an update everytime I add a new episode and I think that's no difference than spamming. So I was thinking rather than spamming (for example HERE) we should create a thread for updates for new uploads.

This may result in less people posting so to avoid that maybe we can link the download threads to discussion threads and another way round. Of course this will only work for popular series such as Bleach but there are big chances that more people will post in the discussion threads instead of download threads.

Ruka said this will be troublesome cause people will need to post two times; one in the thread and another one in the post. But this thread is ONLY for Hokage and Jounins. Fellow Chuunins can always post the new uploads as instructed HERE and Jounins will be the one posting the updates.

----------------------------
This is the posting format for updates:
----------------------------
Subject: 24/4/2010 [JDrama][Anime][Shounen-ai/Yaoi anime]
Jdrama
Shounen wa Tori ni Natta (The Boy Became a Bird) movie

Anime
Ichiban Ushirou no Daimaou eps. 04

Shounen-ai/yaoi Anime
Gravitation eps. 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 [REUPLOAD]
----------------------------

Ruka wished to have the running series on top of the list but ss you can see the updates will be link to the respective post so people will still know what's new. What's more the updates will include all sections; Jdrama, Anime, Shounen-ai.yaoi anime, Music etc so people can check on various uploads for different section in just one post.

....I think I'm done, sorry for the long post XD Please tell me what you think!

Seems like a good idea. Maybe the list could be split into sections for "updated" and "reuploaded" and "new series" or something like that so it's easier to find what you're after Smile

First of all thnx KuroTenshi-chan for speaking to me on MSN for this matter. I'm way too busy to read all posts in the forum myself anymore, and due to that I might miss suggestions like this. (gomen nasai!) So please if you feel the need to point something out to me, please contact me on MSN, or leave a message there. This especially goes for the Jounin, but also counts for chuunin and genin who have suggestions.

Aniywa, I see what you mean now better than when you tried to explain this to me on MSN.

I personally don't think this is such a great idea. It will bring more work to the uploaders, resorting to that they may not quickly post an episode, cause they would need to fill in 2 posts now....

I also don't consider it spamming in the topics, since you give important info in the post, namely that there is a new episode, or chapter or whatever up.
Also members only need to open one thread to see what has been updated instead of 2 threads.... Especially since the discussion thread doesn't nessecarily has to do anything with the download threads...

The one thing I like about this idea is that you would have 1 topic for ALL download threads...

But alas, if the majority will find this a usefull addition, I don't mind having it up.... so please everyone voice your opinion on this.

I gave it some thought, but I think I'm more along the lines of Ruka on this one. It seems like quite a lot of work just to prevent double posting (I don't want to call it spamming either when it's a nice post about an update.) I guess I'm being a little conservative, but I'm so used to just check the download section and if there's a new post I look if it's an update, reupload or a comment. If you and Ruka don't post there, I wouldn't be able to say "thanks for uploading this" without double posting a lot. (Lol, now when I think about it I do say that a lot. XD)

It would be great if we could get more people to the discussion topics, but I can't really picture how it would work. Correct me if I'm wrong, but do you want a discussion topic for most of the download topic? (That's a lot! o.o) I know some people avoid discussion topics because they're afraid of spoilers, and like Ruka said, the discussion and the download topics aren't always connected. (Like if someone just want to say "thanks" it would be weird if they did that when everyone else talked about the content of the episode.)

Personally I like when people go a little off topic and discuss episodes in the download area, that way I can identify the talk active members and guide them to the discussion section and capture them in interesting conversations. Muhahaha ;D *I just ate some chocolate so excuse me if having too much fun writing this*

Something I think is good with your suggestion is that if that thread for updates/new uploads was in the "General Area" the unregistered would be able to see how active AWR really is, and how much anime, drama, music, manga we have up for direct download. =)

Like always I like that you give so many new ideas, and do you remember the contest and game suggestion? I said I thought it wouldn't work with passing turns etc - but you proved me wrong. (Btw, it's still your turn in the "Name the anime!" ;P)

So I'll quote myself from that time and say "Just because I'm sceptical doesn't mean I'm right".

At least someone agree LOL XD

Lets say I have new uplaods for five different series and I have to post in every single of them just to say "Episode ## added". If we have update threads, I can easly combine all the uploads and notify people in a single post.

ruka wrote:

What do you mean.....??

Eien wrote:

"If there is no thread for updates, I wouldn't be able to post new uploads without double posting a lot."

You should know what I meant and why I considered them spamming.

That's just impossible with the number of active Jounins left. So only existed discussion threads will be link.

Eien wrote:

THAT'S WHY I want download threads to be link to discussion threads. So that people especially active members know they can also discuss about them in discussion threads and not only to say thanks.

They don't necessarily have to visit the discussion threads, it is up to them. If they don't want to read spoilers, then don't. I never say anything about forbidding anyone to say thanks or discuss the xxxxx in the download threads. Linking download threads to the discussion threads is the same thing as linking anime downloads section to the manga downloads section. Merely to notify we have them here.

I'm done with my argue lol If after this it is still a bad idea, then I will drop the suggestion =)

that's true

Now you need to go to the discussion thread to see what's been updated, then after you see there that series X has a new eps you need to go to the download section of the series, look for that specific series, because there's no say that that topic is on the firt pages anymore... and then download your eps. Only to start the entire process over when you want to download more eps....
This takes up more time and clicks....

Eien wrote:

strong point. Sounds stupid I know, but it does is nice to read them.

Now this idea I really like, and I think makes more sense than putting it in the discussion thread.... But remains the thing that it still takes up more time to post.

My suggestion to this would be to add to every new topic we make a link to the discussion thread like something like this : Feel free to talk all about this series HERE
or: Want to share your opinion on this series? Go HERE
This way you still motivate people to post in the discussion thread.

And maybe add the update topic in the general area.

But I really don't thinkwe should stop posting the new updates etc in the download section, this way you can see the ongoing series etc on the top of the list.

Dear Ruka-sama, that was exactly what I had been suggesting....It is only necessary for existed discussion threads, if not then there is no need to link them......Another thing is I don't think I said a word about having the update threads in discussion threads......

Anyway you said this earlier;

And then this;

.......I just don't get it anymore ^^;;

So now this suggestion is officially dropped.

I think you're right and it would be too much extra work...

New Suggestion: How about that instead of a topic in the general area that is updated every time a new series/episode are added we could have a topic there that list all the new series of the month? That would be a lot easier to update, I think. (And it's similar to how you did in the Announcements and News HERE)

Or that we make a copy of the "Anime series/movies/OVA's we have" and post it so the unregistered can see it. I know that I usually only register to forums that I know have the anime I'm interested in. In AWR the FAQ says we got anime for download, but it doesn't say how many hundreds of different titles we got here.

I also know that you've said in the FAQ:

Q. So what episodes/series do you have for download?
A: Register and find out!

So I suspect that you might not be as interested in the later idea. XD

If you give me some time I could probably do that, it's no problem. ^^

(I usually make the "NOTE: We also have the prequel or sequel here at AWR" thing whenever I got a little time over or is bored waiting for a download to be complete. XD)

KuroTenshi wrote:

I hope you don't feel discouraged. Like I said, I like when you post suggestions, you're one of the few that got new ideas and that's very important for the forum to have a chance of growing and improving. I hope you'll keep doing that. =)

I'm sure you give all of your suggestions a lot of thought. It’s just that this one was a little difficult for me to understand, since I couldn't really picture how it would work out. I also just want to add that even though I commented a lot on this suggestion I don't think I have the right to say "it's too much work". I am not an uploader, so I wouldn't be the one posting in that topic you described. ^^;

I still agree with Ruka about posting updates in the download section (since it's convenient for me) but if that's the best way for you that is doing the uploading... I have no idea.

The best way to solve the problem with double posting would be if the leechers could just make an effort and let us know that they're using the links here in AWR. >.<

Ruka and you kept saying download threads has no connection with discussion threads. But in the end it was Ruka sama who suggested the SAME THING that I was suggesting. You even saying you could do that but didn't you say this in the first place

"It would be great if we could get more people to the discussion topics, but I can't really picture how it would work. Correct me if I'm wrong, but do you want a discussion topic for most of the download topic? .....I think I'm getting seriously pissed rather than discouraged. *crawls into a black hole*

The reason no one posts in the discussion boards is that there's no incentive to. Once you're registered, you've got instant access to all the downloads without ever having to post anything. Putting a link in the download topic might direct some people there, but the fact remains that most people are just leeches

@Tenshi: I know I said that, and that was because I totally misunderstood what you were trying to say. (I thought it meant that we should direct the people that posted in the download section so they would start posting their comments about the downloads (like "thank you" replies etc) in a discussion section, and only have the uploading members post in the download section.) Well, just forget about it, I just tend to made things more difficult in my head. v__v

When you corrected Ruka the second time I understood better how you meant. I do agree about the linking to the discussion topics suggestion, but when I wrote my last comment I was under a time pressure so I didn't have time to express everything I wanted to say. The main point would've been that if I had understood it correctly from the start I would have said I could help you and do the linking from the beginning. I promise I didn't just change opinion or something.

I thought you seemed kind of frustrated with your reply, that's why I said I hoped you didn't feel discouraged (since I wouldn't be happy with us either if I were in your place.) I do hope you don't feel pissed anymore. I’m sorry if I did something that made you feel that way.

@owly: You're absolutely right about the leeches, but maybe the members that do know how to post (!) can be encouraged enough to click the link and visit a discussion topic they otherwise wouldn't take the effort to find. If they don't know about the topic they can't post in the topic. Of course it's not a big chance it'll make a huge difference but I still think the condition would be better than how it is now.
